Beck Modeling Yves Saint Laurent Menswear
The blurring of the indie rock and fashion worlds continues. Last year, Lana Del Rey helped break down the wall when she became the "global face" for an H&M ad campaign. Now, legendary designers Yves Saint Laurent have hired Beck to model part of their new menswear collection.
GQ is reporting that the decision to get the 40-year-old musician came from Hedi Slimane, Yves Saint Laurent's creative director and a friend of Beck. Slimane, who took the five black-and-white pictures that can be viewed at GQ's website, dressed Beck in a variety of outfits, including a tuxedo and a fringed jacket, complete with a skinny tie. Four of the five pictures find Beck wearing a wide-brimmed black hat. And he's certainly got a model's build: For all the records he's sold in his 20-year career, he still looks like he can't afford a decent meal.
Beck and Slimane have collaborated before, albeit with the musician's other talents being called into action. The alt-rock icon created the score for a runway show when Slimane was at Dior Homme.
Meanwhile, Beck seems to be returning to his day job with a vengeance after a four-year drought. Last year he released 20 new songs via sheet music for his 'Song Reader' project. As 2012 came to a close, he hinted at two projects that may see the light of day in this new year.
