At the very beginning of the year, Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell announced he was working on a brand-new solo album — his first since 2009’s Scream. Now, he has announced that album will be called Higher Truth and it will arrive in stores this September.

Back in January, Cornell revealed in a tweet that he had entered the studio to record a follow-up to the Timbaland-produced Scream. Higher Truth will mark Cornell’s fourth solo album in all, following 1999’s Euphoria Morning, 2007’s Carry On and Scream.

In support of the forthcoming LP, Cornell will embark on a tour in Australia and New Zealand in November and December. According to a press release, the Soundgarden leader will play career-spanning sets that will be held in an “unplugged, up-close and personal setting.”

While it may be six years since Cornell released a solo album, Soundgarden dropped their most recent full-length, King Animal, in 2012, which in turn was their first album in more than 15 years. In 2014, the band released the single, “Storm,” which appeared on the band’s compilation, Echo of Miles: Scattered Tracks Across the Path, later that year.

The Seattle rockers have one tour date on the books, and it’s Big Music Fest in Kitchener, Ontario, and it will take place on July 11.
