Dave Grohl To Direct and Produce Documentary About Famous Recording Studio
Sound City Studios, the Van Nuys, Calif. recording facility which saw the birth of many legendary albums, will be the subject of a new documentary produced and directed by Dave Grohl of Foo Fighters. Grohl's association with the studio goes all the way back to the beginning of his recording career, when Nirvana recorded 'Nevermind.'
"In the spring of 1991," Grohl explained in a hand-written letter that accompanied the press release. "I was a 22-year old starving musician without a cent to my name or a place to call home. My destination: Sound City." Grohl was so enamored with Sound City that, upon its closing, he bought their Neve 8028 console and installed it at his own studio.
Among the most famous names who have recorded at Sound City are Red Hot Chili Peppers, Neil Young, Cheap Trick, Fleetwood Mac, Johnny Cash, Tom Petty, Guns N' Roses, Rage Against the Machine, Nine Inch Nails and Metallica.
The film will tell the story of the studio, which was in business from 1969 until 2011, and the many classic works produced insde its walls. The trailer, embedded below, lists the impressive array of artists and producers who were interviewed for the movie.
