Eddie Vedder‘s appearances at the Hot Stove Cool Music benefit shows have become a tradition over the years, and his covers-heavy set at this year’s event definitely didn’t disappoint.

The Pearl Jam frontman joined an all-star bill for the evening, topping a bill that also included members of Belly and Letters to Cleo. After kicking things off with three songs from the PJ catalog (“Corduroy,” “Not for You,” and “Elderly Woman Behind the Counter in a Small Town”), Vedder spent much of the evening paying homage to some of his favorite artists, ranging from the well-known (the Who, the Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Squeeze, Bruce Springsteen) to the somewhat obscure (Indio, the Mono Men).

Nodding to the fact that this year’s Hot Stove Cool Music show took place in Boston, Vedder also made room for a couple of tributes to hometown heroes, performing Aerosmith‘s “Draw the Line” as well as “Taillights Fade” by Buffalo Tom — and for the latter, he brought out Buffalo Tom frontman Bill Janovitz, telling the crowd how much the song meant to him during the somewhat stressful days of Pearl Jam’s rise to fame in the early ’90s.

As with every year’s show, the 2017 Hot Stove Cool Music benefit helped raise funds for the Foundation to Be Named Later, co-founded by ex-Red Sox and current Chicago Cubs GM Theo Epstein and his brother Paul. As Rolling Stone notes, Vedder and Theo Epstein are friends — and Vedder, a publicly passionate Cubs fan, also has love for the Red Sox.
