Everybody join us as we wish a big happy birthday to Ben Gibbard, who is celebrating turning 36 years old today (Aug. 11). The singer is, of course, best known for his work with Death Cab for Cutie, but he's also played with projects as varied as All-Time Quarterback and the Postal Service over the years. He also issued his split-solo album, 'Home Volume V,' back in 2003, and plans on following that up with solo disc 'Former Lives' later this year.

Hopefully 36 will turn out a little better for Gibbard than 35 did. A lot has gone down in his life over the last 12 months, most notably his separation from actress and musician Zooey Deschanel last November after just two years of marriage. Deschanel filed for divorce a month later, citing irreconcilable differences. But all is not bad for the Washington state native, who gave up alcohol a few years ago and instead spends his free time these days training for and running marathons. Here's hoping he achieves a personal best at 36 -- in running, in music and in life.
