Neutral Milk Hotel frontman Jeff Mangum has announced plans to embark on a solo U.S. tour that kicks off Jan. 9 in Buffalo, N.Y., and runs through a Feb. 16 gig in North Adams, Mass. Music Tapes, Tall Firs and Briars of North America will open various dates on the jaunt; check out date, location and support details below.

"Hello friends in a flock of finches unfolding from the face of a foam horse on the phone to inform you that jeff is heading out for a u.s. acoustic tour, giving him the chance to play to all the silver citizens dwelling in citys that he has yet to sing in," reads a post on Mangum's official website, which is rife with questionable spelling.

A portion of proceeds from ticket sales will benefit the Children of the Blue Sky charity, which helps place orphaned Mongolian children in foster families. Living up to his reputation as a recluse, Mangum will not be granting any interviews to promote the trek, nor will he allow photographs or videos to shot be shot during the concerts.

In the meantime, Mangum will join Guy Picciotto of Fugazi, Lee Ranaldo of Sonic Youth, Tunde Adebimpe of TV on the Radio to perform Thursday (Nov. 15) in New York City at the previously announced People’s Bailout: A Variety Show and Telethon to Benefit the 99%, a telethon to raise money for the Occupy Wall Street movement.
