While chatting with Marky Ramone about his new memoir, ‘Punk Rock Blitzkrieg: My Life as a Ramone,’ we also talked to him about his thoughts on vinyl and the format’s constant resurgence in the last few years. “If you’re going to be an audiophile, that’s the best way to go,” he tells us.

The former drummer for the legendary punk rockers, the Ramones, added that vinyl offers a full listening experience. “All around, it’s more interesting; you’re holding a real product,” he explains in the interview, which you can watch above.

“Vinyl’s a lot thicker and warmer when you play it, and if you take care of it, it won’t scratch,” he explained. “But I kind of miss those scratches.”

It wasn’t all vinyl talk, though; when we asked him about his thoughts on ‘The Miracle (Of Joey Ramone)’ — the lead single from U2’s latest album, ‘Songs of Innocence’ — the drummer said he didn’t understand why the mention of his late bandmate was in the title only.

“The only problem was it didn’t mention Joey in the song. I don’t understand that,” he says. “I mean, such great lyricists, they couldn’t put his name, a little shout out to Joey Ramone, in the song?”

“But you know what? It was great that they did that,” he humbly concedes. “They always cite us as an influence, and if Joey were still alive, he’d be very grateful.”
