Morrissey Unveils ‘Spent the Day in Bed’ Video
Arriving Nov. 17, Morrissey will release his 11th studio album, titled Low in High School. In anticipation of the release, he shared the album's first single "Spent the Day in Bed" last month and now the track has finally been given video treatment.
The video sees the terminally disaffected former Smiths frontman ushered into the setting, a dim-lit performance space, in a wheelchair by English football (i.e., soccer) star Joey Barton. As Morrissey makes his entrance the camera pans up to reveal a flickering "Spent the Day in Bed" projection gracing the ceiling. The singer makes his way to a chair across the room in the few intervening seconds before the camera pans back down to capture the band's performance.
While Morrissey spends the remainder of the video reclining lifelessly in his wooden chair, there is good reason to believe that the forthcoming Low in High School will be anything but impotent. He recently told Rolling Stone that the songs on the album have "rage in the blood." "The people and the politicians everywhere are openly in a state of mutual contempt. Translate all of this into great music and life becomes hopeful,” he said in the interview. The overtly political angle is perhaps unsurprising, given some of his recent encounters with the magisterial class. Over summer the singer was reportedly "terrorized" by an "obviously insane" police officer in Rome.
A Fall tour to promote Low in High School will begin on Oct. 31 at the Schnitzer Concert Hall in Portland and run through Dec. 7 at Boston's Orpheum Theatre. The complete list of tour dates can be found here.
