Nine Inch Nails mastermind Trent Reznor is profiled in this week's issue of New Yorker magazine, and the article features two revelations. First, a NIN greatest-hits collection featuring two new, previously unreleased songs will be issued sometime in 2014, followed by a new Nails album sometime later in the year. The second revelation? Reznor's previously announced collaboration with the Interscope/Dr. Dre-affiliated Beats by Dre enterprise is a brand-new music-streaming service that he's helping design. It's called Daisy and is expected to launch early next year.

The service "uses mathematics to offer suggestions to the listener," Reznor says, "[but also] would present choices based partly on suggestions made by connoisseurs, making it a platform in which the machine and the human would collide more intimately."

"Here's sixteen million licensed pieces of music,’ they’ve said, but you’re not stumbling into anything," Reznor continues, comparing Daisy to Spotify. "What's missing is a service that adds a layer of intelligent curation,"

"[Daisy] is like having your own guy when you go into the record store, who knows what you like but can also point you down some paths you wouldn't necessarily have encountered," he adds.
