According to frontman Anthony Kiedis, Red Hot Chili Peppers are wrapping up work on their new album.

“We’re in the home stretch,” Kiedis told Sex Pistols’ Steve Jones on his Jonesy’s Jukebox radio program (via Alternative Nation). “I sang yesterday, I get a week off, I go back to finish. We’re going to [go] back and listen to the songs and see if we can beat them.”

Danger Mouse is producing the Chili Peppers’ follow-up to 2011’s I’m With You. This marks the band's first LP in 27 years to not be produced by Rick Rubin.

“We had written two dozen songs before we got him,” Kiedis said of the collaboration. "[Danger Mouse] is like, ‘Let’s keep a few of those, but let’s go write all new songs in the studio.’ We’re looking at each other like, ‘Dude, we kind of already wrote the songs, bro.’ He’s like, ‘No, I like to write new ones in the studio.’ So, in honor of accommodating this new process, we wrote all new songs, and it’s a good thing we did.”
