Record Store Day: Mastodon + Feist = ‘Feistodon’
Look out, it's Feistodon! Feist and Mastodon have released the cover art for their Record Store Day collaboration.
Feist continued her dominance of the Juno Awards, Canada's equivalent of the Grammy Awards. During the telecast on Sunday night (April 1), the singer won her 11th career Juno, for Artist of the Year. At the gala dinner the night before, she w
Indie chanteuse Feist took home two awards -- Adult Alternative Album of the Year Music and DVD of the Year -- Saturday night during the 2012 Juno Awards pre-telecast gala dinner, which was held in the Canadian capital of Ottawa. Thirty-four of the 41 Juno trophies were handed out during the event, while the remaining seven will be awarded during Sunday night's Juno Awards -- considered Canada's answer to the Grammys.
It's not uncommon for an artist, even one as original as Feist, to perform a cover or two in an encore. During her sold-out concert at London's Royal Albert Hall on Sunday (March 25), the Canadian indie darling did one better and brought out her opening act, M. Ward, no stranger to male-female vocals through his work with She & Him, to sing the Jesus and Mary Chain's 'Sometimes Always.' The song, a duet with Mazzy Star's Hope Sandoval, originally appeared on 1994's 'Stoned & Dethroned.'
Feist is proving herself to be quite a road warrior -- and a fan of warm weather. She began her latest tour in support of last year's 'Metals' release in February all the way down in Australia (where it was already summer), and she just added more European and North American dates to her trip around the globe.
Metal band Mastodon will contribute to Record Store Day 2012 with covers of tracks by Feist and the Flaming Lips, while Feist is returning the favor with a Mastodon cover of her own.
The Pitchfork Music Festival has announced a portion of its 2012 lineup, highlighted by Vampire Weekend, Feist, Hot Chip and Godspeed You! Black Emperor.
