Ex-Girls singer Christopher Owens performed today at the BBC Radio 6 Music studios and unveiled a brand-new song, ‘New York City.’ As the radio clip available here attests, Owens' gravelly voice pairs well with the tune's saxophone-heavy instrumentals.
Christopher Owens, former frontman of Girls, has announced plans to embark on a solo North American tour of theaters and clubs that will kick off Jan. 14 in Chicago and run through a Jan. 27 gig in Washington, D.C. The trek is in support of his debut solo album, 'Lysandre,' which drops Jan. 15.
Christopher Owens announced he was leaving Girls back in July, and now the singer has laid out the details of his first solo album. Titled 'Lysandre,' the disc is due out Jan. 15, 2013, and Owens says it's "a coming of age story, a road trip story, a love story" about Girls' first tour, which took place back in the summer of '08.
It's rare that a band breaks up just as their star is beginning to rise. However, that fate seems to have befallen Girls, the San Francisco group comprised of two guys, whose second album, 'Father, Son, Holy Ghost,' was a critical favorite in 2011.
