Muse frontman Matt Bellamy wasn't kidding when he said the group's new music was partially inspired by Skrillex. While the first listen of Muse's upcoming 'The 2nd Law' album, 'Unsustainable,' was full-on dubstep at times, the band's official new single, 'Madness,' impresses with a more restrained electronic arrangement.

Last night (Aug. 12) at the 2012 Olympics closing ceremony, Muse performed ‘Survival,’ the official song for this year’s Olympic games. However, their energized and highly anticipated performance -- as well as performances by Ray Davies, Kate Bush and the Who -- was cut from the NBC telecast that aired in the U.S., and music fans were sure to voice their disappointment.

Muse have hopped on the dubstep bandwagon -- and wouldn't you know it, like everything else the Brit rock trio churns out, they've done it in epic fashion. Muse's new track 'Survival' is both the first single off their forthcoming album, 'The Second Law,' and the official song of the 2012 Olympic Games, but singer Matt Bellamy has revealed another startling factoid about that song that almost happened but was not to be: Elton John almost joined to Muse in the studio to provide a guest spot.

Muse's straightforward logo, which takes several alternate forms but usually features the band's name spelled out in bold, black capital letters with horizontal black bars running across the top and bottom, has been around since appearing on the cover of their self-titled EP in 1998...

We already know that the new Muse album marks a creative milestone for the band, which found itself at least in part inspired by the dubstep sounds of artists like Skrillex -- but for the band's bassist, Chris Wolstenholme, it marked a new personal beginning as well.

Muse have frequently been compared to Radiohead, but when it came time to work on their upcoming album 'The 2nd Law,' the band took its cues from an altogether different source: dubstep star Skrillex.

British trio Muse have announced the track listing for their highly anticipated new album 'The 2nd Law.' A total of 13 tracks will be included on the disc, which is due out this fall.
