Wavves Do ‘Letterman,’ Perform ‘Demon to Lean On’
With their fourth studio release, Wavves have created their most coherent listen to date, one that further expresses their slacker aesthetic. They aren’t just picking up where they left off with ‘King of the Beach.’ There’s less fuzz and more grunge, as well as new elements of Animal Collective-style symphonics. However, this is an album that strongly plays upon Williams’ love of Weezer and Nirvana.
Damn, that's one catchy tune! OK, you can say that about most any Wavves jam, so it's not a surprising revelation to make about 'Afraid of Heights,' the new single and title track from Wavves' fourth album, which officially drops today (March 26). Still, we thought we'd point it out. No harm in noting.
The first-ever Grove Music Festival is set to take place at the Commons at Butler’s Barracks National Historic Site in Canada’s idyllic Niagara-on-the-Lake on Aug. 3, and the lineup features the Gaslight Anthem, Phoenix and Wavves, plus many more.
San Diego-based surf-punk trio Wavves have announced a spring 2013 release for their as-yet-untitled fourth full-length album, which they currently are wrapping up work on with producer John Hill (Santigold, Rihanna) at the helm. Earlier today (Dec. 12), they premiered a BLACK // DOCTOR-directed video for 'Sail to the Sun,' the disc's first single.
Wavves frontman Nathan Williams has issued a second mixtape from Sweet Valley, his production side project with his brother Joel. Last month, Sweet Valley put out their debut tape, 'Stay Calm,' and now they are back with the 13-track 'Eternal Champ,' which features samples from various video game scores.
Nathan Williams has a knack for making a union of the simple, strange and awesome: He broke onto the scene with the noisy fuzz surf Wavves back in 2009 and has been an intoxicated luminary of the indie scene since. Now he's teaming up with his brother Kynan for a slice of summery laptop folk. The act is Sweet Valley, and the song is 'Total Carnage.'
Always game for going green, noise pop thrashers Wavves have done the ultimate in extended adolesence: they're now starring in their very own weed-themed video game. Choose either frontman Nathan Williams (on bike) or bassist Stephen Pope (on board) to rip through three levels of drug dealing and cop dodging: first through suburbia (be sure to aim for the doors) then through the city (wait for the streetlight to flash) and then in a hellish demon level (throw it at the demon! demons love weed!).
