Tegan and Sara, Metric and Metz have been defending the world from crappy music for years – now they'll face off against aliens, too.

Toronto-based gaming company Pop Sandbox have launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund Loud on Planet X – an arcade-style indie music video game that will feature Canadian musicians as characters. Aside from the aforementioned artists, other acts attached to the project include F---ed Up, Lights, Austra and Cadence Weapon. The game is described as an "alternative to Rock Band or Guitar Hero with a splash of Plants vs Zombies – a new hybrid of rhythm game and classic shooter with tower defence elements." The game will include two different music tracks per artist.

Pop Sandbox is currently on schedule to release the game with nine artists and 18 tracks this fall on the PlayStation Network (PS4 and PS Vita), Steam and select mobile devices on iOS and Android. But the company launched the Kickstarter campaign to increase the number of bands to 12, include more platforms (like the Nintendo Wii U) and make the game available in more regions and languages.

A $10 donation will get you a digital copy of the game and an exclusive download of the original score along with a thank you in the credits. Pledge $750 or more and your avatar will be drawn into the game as a character in the audience on the first level. Check out more details here and watch the video below.
