"You need to change the website to say we aren't a band anymore," Pavement frontman Stephen Malkmus told bandmate/webmaster Scott "Spiral Stairs" Kannberg in 2000, effectively signifying the end of one of the biggest indie acts of the '90s after years of diminishing kinship. "People keep asking me if we're breaking up, and you know we're not a band anymore, right?" the singer said. When Malkmus refused to call the rest of Pavement and break the news, Kannberg was left with the task -- but a few members still found out on the Internet first. None of this soured any of them enough to skip the band's massive 2010 reunion tour.
