When Bryan Singer came back to ‘X-Men,’ it was absolutely great news for the franchise. Singer directed the best installments of the series, and the first ‘X-Men’ went a long way in resurrecting the comic book movie, which Hollywood didn’t take terribly seriously before.

We’re definitely looking forward to ‘X-Men Days of Future Past,’ which is based on the popular 1981 storyline of the series that involves time travel, so why screw everything up by having the X-Men shill for Carl’s Jr.? Actually, it’s Mystique shilling for them, and the commercial’s pretty lame, but you expected that.

While this isn’t as potentially damaging to the brand as say, Ben Affleck taking over as Batman, and Lord knows, we’re very aware that merchandising your movie is important to get the word out, we actually cringed when we saw the app that can turn you into a Marvel mutant. In all fairness, there’s a ‘Walking Dead’ app that can turn you into a zombie as well, but this is whole thing struck us as very cheesy, especially considering Mystique is eating some Hardee’s burgers too.

Yet have no fear. It’s going to take a lot more than a western bacon cheeseburger to bring down the ‘X-Men.’ When ‘X-Men Days of Future Past’ is released on May 23, it’s going to stand or fall on its own merits.
