You’re Next’ was among the vast number of films to make its debut at SXSW 2013. The upcoming horror flick hits theaters this August and stars Sharni Vinson, Joe Swanberg and AJ Bowen. What’s the song in the gripping trailer?

The tune is Lou Reed’s ‘Perfect Day,’ which appears on his second post-Velvet Underground record, ‘Transformer.’ It gained worldwide recognition after surfacing in the 1996 movie 'Trainspotting' and was later released as a charity single for Children in Need, featuring performances by the likes of David Bowie, Elton John, Bono, Heather Small, Emmylou Harris, Courtney Pine, Robert Cray and more.

Coldplay performed an acoustic version of the track at the 2006 Isle of Wight Festival, and Wolfmother played it during the 2008 ‘Andy Warhol Up Late’ show. Additionally, such artists as Metric, Susan Boyle, Patti Smith, Glenn Gregory and the Jolly Boys have covered the track. Duran Duran also featured a version of the song on their 1995 compilation album ‘Thank You.’

Earlier this month, Reed treated fans to a special playback of ‘Transformer’ in a New York bar. The famed rocker was scheduled to perform at Coachella in just a few weeks, but he has since cancelled his appearance.
