Last night (Nov. 17), Band Aid 30 debuted their new single, ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas?’ on ‘The X Factor.’ Within minutes of its premiere, the single sold more than $1.5 million in pre-orders. Proceeds from the sales go to help aid in the Ebola crisis in west Africa. Check out the single’s music video above.

The studio track features a lineup of British musicians that includes BonoChris MartinEllie Goulding and more.

Since its debut, ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas?’ has sold more than 206,000 copies, making it the fastest-selling single of 2014 in the U.K., outperforming its predecessor. The new song is an updated version of the 1984 original, which sold 200,00 copies in the first two days and a total of 3.7 million in the U.K.

It also outperformed the debut of Band Aid 20’s 2004 edition, which sold a grand total of 297,000 copies.

“It’s gone manic. That’s the digital age,” the project’s organizer, Sir Bob Geldof, said. “We promoted the single on ‘X Factor,’ Simon Cowell gave us five minutes of the show last night. Within four or five minutes of leaving the show, we had a million quid. That’s extraordinary.”

In addition to the proceeds from the single's sales, the charity Medecins sans Frontieres is accepting donations -- they work with Ebola-stricken patients in Africa. Get details on the organization here.
