Belinda Carlisle and ABC To Headline 2018 Retro Futura Tour
Former Go-Go's frontwoman Belinda Carlisle and British new wave band ABC will headline this summer's Retro Futura Tour. The all '80s bill runs between July 11-Aug. 12, and also features Modern English, Kajagoogoo's Limahl, Haircut 100's Nick Heyward and Bow Wow Wow's Annabella.
This marks Limahl's first time performing with the crew in North America, as well as an unusual visit for Heyward.
Carlisle is returning to her solo career after her most recent reunion with the Go-Gos ended back in 2016. However the band's songs are headed back to the spotlight. Actress Gwyneth Paltrow has been working to bring the their biggest hits to Broadway, in a romance based on Sir Philip Sidney's 16th-century work Arcadia. An early version of the show that was performed in 2015 received less than stellar reviews.
"If you told us 30 years ago that our songs were going to be in a musical, we'd have said, 'Of course they'll be on Broadway!'" the Go-Gos wrote in a statement. "None of us would have really believed it, though." Green Day's American Idiot director Michael Mayer will also helm this production, a revised version of which is expected to premiere in San Francisco in April, then move to Broadway for the 2018-2019 season.
Dates and ticketing information for the 2018 Retro Futura tour will be released later this winter. Howard Jones, Men Without Hats, the English Beat, Katrina from Katrina and the Waves and Paul Young shared the bill on last year's edition of the tour.
