As we get closer and closer to the release date of Ben Folds' upcoming album, So There -- which is Sept. 11 via New West, by the way -- he's shared another fabulous new song with us, "Phone in the Pool" -- take it for a spin in the audio player below.

Premiering earlier this week over at the Wall Street Journal, Folds told the paper the title of the song comes from first-hand experience: "I was sick of being tethered to [my phone] and feeling guilty for not answering people while I had been on stage ... Realized that was silly and impulsively tossed it."

The result of Folds' phone chucking? A new song that perfectly represents the "hybrid between pop and chamber music" sound of So There, featuring New York City's yMusic:

Ahead of the record's release date, Folds has announced that pre-orders for So There will begin on Friday, July 17 at 11AM ET at his official website; of particular interest are two deluxe vinyl editions of the LP, including one version limited to 2,000 copies and a "premium" edition that will see a mere 250 pressings. You can grab more details on those two sets -- and other pre-order options -- here.

Folds has several shows scheduled over the next few months, including a few solo dates, a gig with the San Diego Symphony and a run with yMusic. You can grab his full tour itinerary at this location.
