This year's Bestival drew thousands of spectators and an all-star lineup that included Stevie Wonder, New Order, Frank Ocean, Sigur Ros and the xx -- but the weekend of great music ended in tragedy when a bus returning from the U.K. festival overturned after crashing into a tree, killing three passengers and leaving others seriously injured.

According to police, no other vehicles were involved in the crash, which took place in Surrey after the bus unexpectedly veered off the road. Three passengers were pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, and an unspecified number were transported to the hospital with what officials are calling "life-changing injuries." As one officer told reporters, "I understand the road was dry. We cannot see any reason that the road conditions would have had any effect on what occurred."

Added another investigator, "This has been declared a major incident and we are working with our colleagues from the other emergency services and other partner agencies to provide a co-ordinated response in line with agreed protocols. Our thoughts remain with the relatives of the dead and the injured at this time and we are working very hard to notify their next of kin."
