UPDATE: Dave Grohl Will Not Perform With A Tribe Called Quest and Anderson .Paak at Grammys
UPDATE 2/2: The Recording Academy issued the following statement: "Earlier this week, we announced that Dave Grohl would be performing with Anderson .Paak and A Tribe Called Quest prior to confirming all participants. Dave Grohl will not be part of this performance. Unfortunately, our announcement was made prematurely. On behalf of The Recording Academy and AEG Ehrlich Productions, we sincerely apologize to all parties involved for our error."
With no new music in 2016, Foo Fighters aren't up for any Grammy Awards this year, but there will still be a Dave Grohl sighting. The Recording Academy has announced that Grohl is set to join forces with hip-hop legends A Tribe Called Quest and acclaimed newcomer Anderson .Paak for a performance during the telecast.
The announcement was made this morning via a press release, although it didn't specify whether Grohl, who has 15 Grammys, would be playing guitar, drums, singing or rapping. Anderson .Paak is nominated for Best New Artist and, although A Tribe Called Quest's We Got It From Here... Thank You 4 Your Service was unrecognized by the academy, they have received four nominations in the past.
We also learned that Daft Punk would be onstage with the Weeknd, creating more starpower to a lineup that already includes Metallica, Adele, John Legend, Bruno Mars, Carrie Underwood and Keith Urban. More performers are expected to be announced in the near future.
This year's Grammys will be held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on Sunday, Feb. 12 at 8PM Eastern, with the telecast on CBS and hosted by James Corden. Both David Bowie and Radiohead are nominated for Best Alternative Music Album (Blackstar, A Moon Shaped Pool, respectively) and Best Rock Song ("Blackstar," "Burn the Witch," respectively). "Blackstar is also up for Best Rock Performance, and PJ Harvey, Bon Iver and Iggy Pop received nods. You can see the list of nominees in the major categories here.
