Watch Eddie Vedder Sing With Nearly Everyone Who Played the Ohana Festival
On Saturday (Aug. 27), Eddie Vedder headlined the Ohana Festival at Doheny State Beach in Dana Point, Calif. But he got there early and spent some time with the undercard, sitting in with Elvis Costello, X and former Red Hot Chili Peppers and Pearl Jam drummer Jack Irons.
As Stereogum notes, Vedder and Costello duetted on "(What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace, Love And Understanding?," the Nick Lowe song with which Costello had a hit in 1979. A couple of hours earlier, during X's set, he stopped by to sing "The New World," which Pearl Jam covered during the 2004 Vote for Change tour. Jack Irons, who famously connected Vedder with Pearl Jam, played a couple of brief sets on the Tiki Stage over the course of the day and Vedder came on for a reworking of Pink Floyd's "Shine on You Crazy Diamond.
Vedder returned the favors during his own set by allowing others to share the stage with him. "Indifference" was played with professional surfer Kelly Slater and, to close out the night, X and Band of Horses performed Neil Young's "Rockin' in the Free World."
This was the first year for the Ohana Festival, which saw Lana Del Rey headline Sunday night. A portion of the proceeds are being donated to the San Onofre Parks Foundation. According to its website, the San Onofre Parks Foundation's website's mission is to "provide education, protection, and preservation for the California State Parks at San Onofre and San Clemente State Beaches." They "work cooperatively with California State Parks to develop and promote a strong image that San Onofre State Beach is a world treasure that must never be compromised."
