Green Day Premiere ‘Bang Bang’ and ‘Revolution Radio’ in Columbus: Setlist + Video
After an illness that delayed the start of their tour by a week, Green Day finally kicked things off with a 25-song set (see below) at the Newport Music Hall in Columbus, Ohio last night (Sept. 26). It featured the live debuts of two songs from their upcoming record, Revolution Radio.
They dispensed with both of those songs immediately. After taking the stage to Ennio Morricone’s theme from The Good, the Bad & the Ugly, they launched into “Bang Bang” and followed it up with “Revolution Radio.” Setlist.fm notes that nearly half of the remaining 23 songs stemmed from only two albums, American Idiot (six) and Dookie (five). They also recognized their pre-major label past with 3 cuts from Kerplunk! Somewhat tellingly, none of the material from the three discs they released in 2012 — ¡Uno!, ¡Dos! and ¡Tré! — were featured.
The concert also featured a medley of the Isley Brothers’ “Shout,” the Rolling Stones’ “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction” and the Beatles’ “Hey Jude.” Following a two-song encore of “American Idiot” and “Jesus of Suburbia,” Billie Joe Armstrong came out with an acoustic guitar and played “Ordinary World” — the theme song from his forthcoming movie that was debuted at the movie's premiere — and “Good Riddance (Time of Your Life).”
We’ve collected video from last night’s performance. You can see “Bang Bang” above, “Revolution Radio,” “Ordinary World” and a handful of other songs embedded below.
Green Day’s tour continues tomorrow night at the Starland Ballroom in Sayreville, N.J. yesterday, they announced that the postponed St. Louis, Chicago and Detroit concerts would take place at the end of October. You can get complete information at Green Day’s website.
