After six years of making their indie rock dreams come true, the husband and wife duo of Dan Boeckner and Alexei Perry -- better known as Handsome Furs -- have decided to pull the plug on the band.

Boeckner and Perry broke the news to fans on their site, where they posted a note that begins, "With a heavy heart the time has come to let all of you know that Handsome Furs are no more." It concludes with a bit of gratitude: "The most important thing that needs to be said right now is how extremely grateful we are to all the fans all over the world that showered us with love and support over the years. Thank you for everything! It's been an incredible six years and we owe it all to you."

As Pitchfork notes, the band was recently forced to cancel a series of European tour dates due to an unspecified "urgent health issue," and the news comes on the heels of Boeckner's other band, Wolf Parade, announcing an "indefinite hiatus" in late 2010.

Here's hoping for healthier, happier days for Boeckner and Perry -- and new music on the horizon from them both.
