At first glance, Nova Scotia might not appear to be a significant source for new music -- but since the 1990s, one of its cities, Halifax, has been a Canadian indie music hub. Resting in this coastal area are In-Flight Safety, one of the area's premier rock acts who have broken out across North America and Europe. Today (Jan. 7), Diffuser is thrilled to debut their latest music video, ‘Animals’ -- check it out above.

Fans are likely familiar with ‘Animals’ from In-Flight Safety’s latest full-length disc, ‘Conversationalist,’ which hit the streets on Oct. 28 via Ooh La La Recordings. The studio track has a constant upbeat rhythm to it, and the accompanying music video takes that experience to an even more intimate and beautiful level.

“When I think of the song ‘Animals,’ I think of the forest,” frontman John Mullane tells us. “It’s dark and it’s kind of twisted and craggily. The evergreen forests of Nova Scotia perfectly embody the setting of this track.”

He goes on, “I called Drew [Lightfoot, director] and said, ‘How do you feel about a Nova Scotia road trip to film a video?’ If he wasn’t in Russia or Berlin or Central America sourcing locally produced wood for his barn, he might be up for it. He’s one of the most adventurous and talented dudes I know. I get giddy when I know we are working on something together.”

As for the visuals found in ‘Animals,’ Mullane loved Lightfoot's direction from the very beginning. “When Drew told me his idea about projecting nature indoors and then projecting the city onto nature, I thought it was perfect,” he recalls. “The lyrics ultimately are about friendship ... specifically the challenges of longterm friendships. I think that’s why we endued up back in the university town where we started.”

And if you’re drawn to the beautiful indoor location of the music video, you’re not alone. “As soon as we walked up the stairs, the vibe found us,” Mullane says about discovering a vintage 1930s theatre in Sackville. “It’s the most haunting and beautiful space.”

'Conversationalist' is out now, and In-Flight Safety have promised new tour dates for 2015 will be announced soon. Stay up-to-date with everything happening in their world at their official website here.
