James McMurtry Performs ‘These Things’ In the Basement of the Mercury Lounge
On the heels of announcing his first studio album in six years, James McMurtry made a stop at New York City's iconic Mercury Lounge Friday night (Nov. 7) for a packed, sweaty and sold-out show. Ahead of his performance, we had the opportunity to chat with him and even get a sneak peek at a new song from the upcoming LP, 'Complicated Game.'
As we followed him downstairs, McMurtry led us into the belly of the Mercury Lounge; past the bathrooms, past the storage rooms, past, well, everything, until we came to a small room in the corner of the basement. It was there that he pulled out his 12-string acoustic guitar and played 'These Things.' Watch the performance in the video above.
'These Things' features everything we know and love about McMurtry; his signature guitar sound, his profound storytelling ability and his hypnotic "talk-sing" vocals. The song is the B-side to the lead single from the new record, 'How'm I Gonna Find You Now.' While we enjoyed a solo acoustic performance, the studio version features McMurtry's full band. You can grab the 7-inch here.
In the meantime, listen to 'How'm I Gonna Find You Now' below -- and get McMurtry's full tour schedule here.
