The term "indie" gets thrown around way too often, a lot of times being incorrectly used. However, the forthcoming Terrence Malick film 'Lawless' embodies indie in every possible way, right down to its line-up of cameos from Arcade Fire, Fleet Foxes, Neon Indian and others. With so many hipster-approved acts on board, it should come as no surprise that 'Lawless' is being filmed in Austin, Texas, the so-called Live Music Capital of the World.

Malick and 'Lawless' cast member Rooney Mara were spotted last week by the pop culture blog Just Jared in Austin during SXSW. 'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' star was shooting a scene with Neon Indian leader Alan Palomo at Fader Fort, a central hub of SXSW activity known for presenting performances by top-shelf buzz bands and providing endless amounts of the free alcohol that fuels many attendees of the week-long party.

Malick was previously in Austin last year shooting footage for 'Lawless' during the Fun Fun Fun Fest and Austin City Limits festival. Actor Christian Bale was spotte by IndieWire at ACL with a film crew in tow taking in performances by Arcade Fire, Iron & Wine and Fleet Foxes; Mr. Batman himself even joined the Foxes onstage to play the bongos while the cameras rolled.

According to IMDb, 'Lawless' is about "Two intersecting love triangles. Sexual obsession and betrayal set against the music scene in Austin, Texas." Mara and Bale are joined in the ensemble cast by Ryan Gosling, Natalie Portman and Cate Blanchett.

No definitive release date has been given besides a 2013 stamp. The film will not follow up on Terrence Malick's Oscar-nominated title, 'Tree of Life,' which came out last year. Instead, the director first will finish up an unnamed project with Ben Affleck to be released later this year.
