Patrick Carney of the Black Keys and Michelle Branch Are Engaged
She posted a picture of her ring-adorned finger on Instagram, writing, "Thank you for all the birthday love and wishes. Last night, right before I blew out my candles, @officerpatrickcarney asked me to marry him and then I had nothing left to wish for. 34 might be the best year yet."
The couple met at a Grammy party in 2015. 'Patrick had just broken his shoulder so he was not touring, he wasn’t able to play drums," Branch, who posted five Top 40 hits between 2001 and 2003, including "Everywhere" and "All You Wanted," told Popcrush, "and he was sitting in the corner like, in a chair with his sling. And he was like, 'Michelle?' And he called me over and he was like, 'Why don’t you have an album out?' And I was like, 'Well, how much time do you have?' And I think Patrick, he loves underdogs, he loves an underdog story. And he was basically like, 'I’m going to help you fix this. I’m going to help you figure this out.'"
Carney co-produced and co-wrote all 14 songs on Branch's new record, Hopeless Romantic, which was released this past April and was her first since 2003. “This record wouldn’t have seen the light of day had he not been involved,” she told Billboard. “That’s why it was important for him to be up there -- when we were making it, it felt like it was us against the world.”
But more importantly, it was during the sessions, she said, that they “started realizing that we were completely falling in love.” It was a fulfullment of a long-running crush he had on her. “Pat has said, ‘I remember seeing you on MTV in the early 2000s and thinking you were really cute,’” she added. “It’s like, why couldn’t we have just met each other in our 20s? We would have saved so much heartache! He said that we probably would have f---ed it up. And yeah, we probably would have.”
This will be Carney's third marriage and the second for Branch.
