Josh Homme Says Queens of the Stone Age Are ‘Locked In’ on New Album
Frontman Josh Homme revealed their plans during a recent episode of the Let There Be Talk podcast (via Ultimate Guitar), and although he didn't go into any specifics, he made it clear that — at least creatively speaking — the group's current lineup is going full steam ahead toward its next LP.
"Yeah," said Homme when asked if a new Queens of the Stone Age record was the next item on his to-do list. "Same lineup, we’re locked in. We’re having a meeting tomorrow about what we’re gonna do."
Although the Queens have been on a break since early 2015, Homme has stayed busy with an assortment of other projects. He reunited with Eagles of Death Metal bandmate Jesse Hughes for a 2015 album, Zipper Down, and more recently collaborated with Iggy Pop to produce, co-write, and play an assortment of instruments on Pop's 2016 Post Pop Depression LP.
Whenever it arrives, the next Queens of the Stone Age record has some big shoes to fill. ...Like Clockwork, the band's sixth studio LP, topped the charts in 2013, marking their first No. 1 album. Judging by Homme's remarks, it appears likely that the same personnel he used for that effort — including core members Troy Van Leeuwen, Dean Fertita, and Michael Shuman — will again be on hand when the group reconvenes.
