Serj Tankian joins Prophets of Rage to Perform ‘Like a Stone’ for Chris Cornell
In what was no doubt an emotional performance for the band, the remaining Audioslave members teamed up yesterday with friend and System of a Down vocalist Serj Tankian to play "Like a Stone" in tribute to Audioslave and Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell, who died last month. You can watch video of the performance above.
The tribute came during a set by Prophets of Rage, which includes the three remaining Audioslave members — Tom Morello, Tim Commerford and Brad Wilk — at the Rock Am Ring Festival in Germany. Chuck D and B Real, both Prophets of Rage vocalists, stood by on stage, dancing and leading the audience in hand-claps.
Last week, Prophets of Rage's DJ Lord posted a video to Facebook of his Audioslave bandmates playing an instrumental version of the song in the studio.
Tankian had recently seen Cornell at Elton John's 70th birthday party in March, according to Rolling Stone, and then again in April at the premiere for the film The Promise, for which they had both written music. Cornell’s proceeds from the film are being donated to the humanitarian non-profit International Rescue Committee.
"We had this long chat, sitting next to each other," Tankian said. Cornell told Tankian, "'I'm really excited. I'm doing this tour with Soundgarden. I've got these other ideas.' He had plans, man. He was doing great, doing press – fighting the good fight."
But on May 18, following a Soundgarden performance in Detroit, Cornell died by hanging.
