Punk is merging with EDM and it's all happening at the hands of Shy Kidx.

The Italian producer recently became the first electronica artist to sign with punk heavyweight, Epitaph. 2013 has been good to the artist, who also snagged a spot on the Warped Tour and found his music featured in a Toyota commercial.

Don't worry, he doesn't plan to slow down anytime soon. Shy Kidx chatted with Diffuser.fm about when he plans to release new music and why he's reluctant to give advice to aspiring EDM artists.

Your label, Epitaph, is a big punk rock label. How is electronic music similar to rock?

I don’t think it’s similar, but I think the attitude is pretty much the same. It’s independence music, so I think there are a lot of things in common between the two.

It’s been a big year for you. Toyota featured one of your songs, ‘Orion,’ in a commercial. What’s it like to have your music played alongside very established artists?

It was very weird. The song was out three months before Toyota Corolla and … we just threw it out on an EP to see what would happen. It happened that Toyota Corolla picked it for their campaign. It was pretty weird and pretty good for me.

You also played the Warped Tour earlier this year.

Yeah, we played all summer long on Warped Tour. It was a weird experience too, in a good way. It was pretty good traveling around the country and [meeting] a lot of great people. It was a very good experience.

Was there anyone on Warped that you met that you were really excited to see?

Pretty much anyone in the stage where I was playing. It was me and other electronic artists on the Spotify stage. They were all very great people … It was very nice to meet them.

It must be great to be around so many people doing the same thing.

Yeah, when these people are bigger than you and you [can] learn about them.

Are you interested in collaborating with anyone?

Yeah, that would be good. Maybe I’ll do some stuff on my own for the next few months. I don’t feel like I’m ready … I don’t feel prepared for this and just need to do some other stuff on my own, but I would love to do it.

What advice would you give to people who want to get into EDM and producing?

I don’t feel that I’m good enough to give advice. The only advice I can give is if you love to do it, just do it. Doing it in the most honest way and maybe have these results.

Any plans to release new music?

I’m working on it. I think new material will be out in February. I’m working on it now. We’re trying to see when to put it out and what songs to put out. It will be in January or February at least.

Are you going to continue touring?

No, I will stop because I need to concentrate on music and writing new music. This is my first love, the thing that I love the most, so I need to do that and nothing else.
