Stars With Rock Star Dads
Being famous often runs in the family, and to prove it, we celebrity geneticists here at Diffuser.fm have compiled the following list of young and talented peeps with rock star dads. You may know some of these famous papa-offspring pairings -- in most cases, they share the same last names, after all -- but others may surprise you. Read on.
1. Harper Simon / Paul Simon
A singer-songwriter just like his pa, rock legend Paul Simon, Harper dropped his sophomore solo record, 'Division Street,' back in March. He's shared the stage with the likes of Iggy Pop, RZA, Eric Clapton and Thurston Moore.
2. Albert Hammond, Jr. / Albert Hammond
You probably recognize Al Jr. as the guitarist of the Strokes, but his father is also well known in the music world. Hammond Sr. played in a few bands in his native England before moving to the U.S. in the '70s and starting his solo career.
3. Lara Johnston / Tom Johnston
Lara is the singer-songwriter daughter of the Doobie Brothers' Tom Johnston. She has performed alongside Willie Nelson, Heart, Huey Lewis and the News, Journey, Bonnie Raitt and Steve Miller.
4. Joe Sumner / Sting
Sting recruited his son, Joe Sumner, to sing backup vocals on his '80s pop album 'The Dream of the Blue Turtles.' Sumner then went on to make his own name as the frontman of the U.K. rock outfit Fiction Plane.
5. Rufus Wainwright / Loudon Wainwright III
Charismatic crooner Rufus has released a number of classic albums over the years, but he's not the first Wainwright to do so. Growing up, he was a member of the McGarrigle Sisters and Family — a folk group featuring his mother Kate, his sister Martha and his father Loudon, a highly respected songwriter, actor and humorist.
