The xx, ‘Chained’ – New Video

"Spending two days underwater wasn't quite as easy as we thought," the xx say of their Young Replicant-directed video for 'Chained,' the second single off their sophomore album, 'Coexist.' "We love how it turned out, hope you enjoy too."

And we do enjoy it -- and totally understand how it maybe wasn't so easy to make. The clip comprises a series of slow-motion shots of the xx members diving into the sea, frantically swimming and drifting, as if in the womb. We imagine the water used in the shoot was freezing, that the skin on their fingers got wrinkly quite fast and that they probably had a hard time hold their breath long enough. The video was made in conjunction with the Creators Project, a partnership between Intel and Vice magazine that has resulted in projects involving everyone from Grizzly Bear to Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.
