The xx, ‘Last Christmas’ [Listen]

Last week, Florence + the Machine's cover of Wham's 'Last Christmas' landed on our tally of the all-time 10 Best Christmas Songs, and now the xx have recorded a version. Here, in the hands of these minimalist masters, the '80s classic gets a decidedly dark and spare reworking. 

With all these end-of-the-world prophecies going down, who knows -- maybe this literally will be our last Christmas. Then again, if the 12/21 Mayan apocalypse comes to pass, we won't even make it to Dec. 25. Such sad, sorrowful times we live -- which goes well with this downtrodden, dreary Xmas jam. Enjoy!
