Urban Outfitters Now Carries Cassettes, Exclusive Releases From Beach House, Run the Jewels + More

Urban Outfitters is playing a significant role in the vinyl revival. According to a Billboard report last year, the clothing retailer was second to Amazon in record sales, raking in 8.1 percent of sales in comparison to Amazon’s 12.3 percent. Now, it appears Urban Outfitters has set its sights on the regenesis of cassettes.

This month, Urban Outfitters will begin selling cassette tapes and cassette players online and in select stores across North America (see a list of participating stores at the bottom of the page). It will also carry exclusive cassette releases, the first of which will come from Run the Jewels. Releases to follow include Halsey, Marina and the Diamonds, Beach House, Action Bronson, Alvvays, American Football, Foals, Japandroids, Muse, Method Man and more.

In light of its new tape selection, some Urban Outfitters stores will participate in Cassette Store Day this Friday (Oct. 17) -- the cassette counterpart to Record Store Day. That day, Urban will give away UO Mixtape: Volume 11, which includes tracks from Youth Lagoon, Destroyer, Hop Along, Deafheaven and more.
