British singer Birdy has been drawing a lot of attention over the past year. The 15-year old artist's covers of Bon Iver's 'Skinny Love,' the Postal Service's 'The District Sleeps Alone Tonight' and '1901' by Phoenix have earned her much praise from critics and fans alike. Watch Birdy give a soulful rendition of the xx's 'Shelter' below.

As PopCrush reports, the performance was taken from Birdy's (real name Jasmine van den Bogaerde) recent show in Los Angeles. While xx's version of 'Shelter' is a slow-paced, jazz lounge-esque affair, Birdy's take on the song strips it down even further with just her voice and a piano.

The young musician expresses more heartbreaking emotion than xx frontwoman Romy Madley Croft. “I find shelter in this way / Under cover, hide away / Can you hear when I say? / I have never felt this way / Maybe I had said something that was wrong / Can I make it better with the lights turned on?” she sings.

'Shelter' is taken from Birdy's debut self-titled album that was released last year. The record includes her own original song 'Without a Word' and is currently working on her second disc, which will be cover-free with her own material.
