Despite the fact his beloved Cubs didn’t make the World Series, Eddie Vedder hasn’t lost morale. That much was exhibited during Pearl Jam’s rousing cover of John Lennon’s “Imagine” at a recent gig in Santiago.

Pearl Jam made their way to the Chilean capital on Wednesday (Nov. 4), where they played an expansive set that also included covers of Pink Floyd’s “Mother” and Neil Young’s “Rockin’ in the Free World” and two encores. Pearl Jam’s gorgeous rendition of “Imagine” came during the first encore, for which the stadium killed the lights and concertgoers promptly illuminated the venue with lighters, cell phones and the like. Check it out in the video above.

Just prior to heading to Santiago to start rehearsals for their South American tour, Vedder was faced with the dilemma of potentially missing the Cubs if they were to make it to the World Series. At the time, he said Pearl Jam might have to plan future tours around the Cubs’ schedule. Unfortunately for Vedder and Cubs fans everywhere but fortunately for South American Pearl Jam devotees, it didn’t come to that this year. The band heads to Buenos Aires on Saturday (Nov. 7); you can see all of their upcoming stops right here.
