The self-titled debut from the Watkins Family Hour -- the longtime L.A.-based variety show helmed by Nickel Creek siblings Sarah and Sean Watkins -- just landed in stores yesterday (July 24). To celebrate, the band helped kick off this year’s Newport Folk Festival, which was captured for CBS This Morning’s Saturday Sessions.

Fiona Apple and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers' founding member Benmont Tench both contributed to the Watkins Family Hour’s newly minted LP, and they were also on-hand at the Newport Folk Festival performance at the Jane Pickens Theater. Watch them perform two of the album’s covers, Fleetwood Mac’s “Steal Your Heart Away” and the Grateful Dead’s “Brokedown Palace,” at the bottom of the page.

The Watkins Family Hour is a collection of covers that also features the band’s renditions of Bob Dylan’s “Going Going Gone,” Robert Earl Keen’s “Feelin’ Good Again,” Gordon Lightfoot’s “Early Morning Rain” and more.

The Newport Folk Festival isn’t the only stop planned for the Watkins-led outfit's traveling variety show. They also have two-night stays set up in New York City; Nashville; Chicago; Berkeley, Calif.; and Seattle, plus a stop in Portland. Get more details at this location.
