The kid in the photo grew up in Pennsylvania, gigged with Cleveland bands and eventually released his debut album under his group's name, even though he played every instrument on it himself. He was a major force in the alt-rock revolution of the mid '90s, releasing one of the best albums to come out of the era.

These days, he has several projects in the works. In addition to his main band, which has been inactive for a few years, he's released music with his new group, which he fronts with his wife, and under his own name. The latter solo material also netted him an Oscar.
