Bloc Party have been on their second hiatus since 2013, but frontman Kele Okereke says that will soon come to an end as the band have “started recording” their fifth album. Okereke even previewed a new song called “Exes.”

During an interview on Australian radio station Triple J, Okereke revealed the British indie rockers are currently at work on a follow-up to 2012’s Four. “We’ve started recording,” he said. “I think we have about 18 [song] ideas and we’re going to lay them down properly in the next few months.”

He also said to expect the unexpected with the album. “It’s sounding like nothing that we’ve done before, but that’s what everyone always says,” Okereke said. “So far, there’s nothing that I can compare it to really in terms of other musicians, whereas in the past I always could... We were always trying to reference something else.”

Though Bloc Party's debut album, Silent Alarm, just turned 10 years old last month, Okereke said the band are more focused on looking to the future than the past and won't embark on any anniversary tour. “I don’t think that sort of thing does much good for artists,” he said. “I always cringe a little bit when you hear about bands going around just touring on a kind of anniversary record. I feel that it just seems a little bit cynical.”
