What could hotter-than-hot DJ Skrillex possibly have in common with teen queen Selena Gomez? On the surface, nothing. But the two are linked by 'Spring Breakers,' the forthcoming film directed by indie cinematic auteur Harmony Korine. Skrillex has just signed on to score the movie, in which Gomez stars as a wayward co-ed who goes off in search of spring break glory and thus finds herself in a whole heap of trouble alongside fellow teen pop star Vanessa Hudgens. Actor (and PhD candidate) James Franco also has a lead role in the flick.

According to Rolling Stone, Skrillex will supply the film -- which is due out next spring -- with original music. The EDM superstar is psyched to board the project, since the director gave him carte blanche. In a statement, Skrillex said, "I think this film is going to turn a lot of heads in many ways. It was a lot of fun to work with Harmony because he gave me the freedom and trust to do whatever I wanted."

Skrillex also shared his perspective on the medium, saying, "Scoring to film is definitely a different approach to music making in the sense that it's not so much about how the music sounds by itself as it is finding ways to compliment the vibe of the film."

It's worth noting that Nine Inch Nails guru Trent Reznor found major success scoring films -- he won an Oscar for 'The Social Network'-- so perhaps Skrillex will be following in his footsteps as he heads down this path.
