‘Daydream Nation’
Sonic Youth‘s 1988 release ‘Daydream Nation’ features a solitary candle on the cover. It comes from a photo done by Gerhard Richter titled ‘Kerze’ (that’s candle, for those of you who need a translation).
Now, imagine what would have happened to that candle if it was left lit since 1988? It would extinguish eventually, and that’s what happens in this animation, which takes the candle down until it’s lights out for the viewer.
Unfortunately, Sonic Youth may too be extinguished as Kim Gordon and Thurston Moore filed for divorce last year, putting the band’s future in serious doubt.
