Alabama Shakes frontwoman Brittany Howard and Jack White backing singer Ruby Amanfu have teamed up to record two songs to be released as a 7-inch vinyl single on White's Third Man Records. Side A features a cover of 'I Wonder,' a tune originally performed by Sixto Rodriguez, the subject of the Oscar-winning documentary 'Searching For Sugar Man,' while the B-side is an acoustic version of 'When My Man Comes Home,' originally recorded by blues guitarist Memphis Minnie.

Jack White has been named the official ambassador of Record Store Day 2013, this year's edition of an annual event held in celebration of independent record stores across the country. To mark his appointment as "Record Store Day Ambassador," White appears in a video short that features the rocker giving a tour of the United Record Pressing vinyl plant in his adopted hometown of Nashville. Jack White took a little trip to the City of Roses (or perhaps we should call it 'The City Where Young People Go to Retire?') last night (Dec. 17) when he made a quick cameo appearance in the Christmas episode of 'Portlandia,' the IFC sketch comedy starring Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein. In the skit, Armisen plays a producer with a serious Brian Wilson fixation who shows off his studio, which is stocked with an arsenal of vintage recording gear. Sadly, he has no musicians booked to actually use the facility, but then White shows up at the end of the clip as a ghostly apparition, ready to rock. Perhaps White is finally gearing up for his inevitable 'Pet Sounds' phase?

Jack White has bailed on 'The Lone Ranger.' Back in April, we reported that White had signed on to compose the score for Walt Disney Pictures production, and that none other than director Gore Verbinski and star Johnny Deep (Tonto) had recruited the singer. But due to a change in the film's production, White has been replaced by Hollywood composer Hans Zimmer, the man behind the music for such hits as 'Gladiator' and 'The Dark Knight.'

Update: Jack White has issued a statement regarding an NME article posted today (Dec. 5) that was based on a recent interview he gave to the British edition of Esquire magazine. White contends that the NME article misquoted him by incorrectly identifying Lady Gaga's music as the target of a rant he delivered on the state of contemporary celebrity culture. He insists he was instead talking about "the drawbacks of image for the sake of image" and was using "Lady Gaga's presentation" as an example.
