The Volkswagen Beetle convertible “will brighten your night,” a new ad suggests. The 30-second clip (watch below) proves it, as a couple enjoys a peaceful evening drive through the breathtaking Alaskan scenery while Cat Power’s (aka Chan Marshall) ‘Dark End of the Street’ plays in the background.

The charming tune — originally by R&B legend James Carr — is the title track from Cat Power's 2008 covers EP, which also features songs by Aretha Franklin, Otis Redding, Sandy Denny and Creedence Clearwater Revival. In a 2008 review, Rolling Stone wrote that the disc “documents the unlikely transformation of an emotive indie rocker into a bona fide soul singer.”

Marshall’s music has been used in ads for a variety of big-name companies over the years — Cingular, De Beers, Gap and Lincoln, to name a few.

Fans hoping to catch a live show by Cat Power will have plenty of chances this summer. She has a string of tour dates lined up, including appearances at Nelsonville Music Festival, Free Press Summer Fest, Bonnaroo, Latitude Festival, Malta Festival, Lollapalooza and Sweden’s Way Out West. Check out her official site for the full itinerary.
