Sam Smith's debut studio album, 'In the Lonely Hour,' reached No. 1 on the U.K. charts and No. 2 stateside on the Billboard Top 200. The album's second single, 'Stay with Me,' nabbed the No. 1 spot on the Adult Alternative Album (Triple A) charts as well and has held a Top 10 position there for 18 weeks. On top of that success, Smith was nominated for a Moonman in 'Best Male Video' at last night's (Aug. 24) MTV Video Music Awards -- though, Ed Sheeran's video with Pharrell ended up winning.

Even without the trophy, Smith was still one of the most talked about artists at this year's MTV VMAs due to his powerful performance of 'Stay with Me.' If you didn't see it, or you just want to watch it again, check it out in the video below.

Smith will be performing at the massive iTunes Festival on Sept. 9 followed by a North American-wide tour beginning Sept. 15 in Boston. Get his full schedule here.
