Against Me!’s Laura Jane Grace Wants to Be in the Next ‘Star Wars’ Movie

Star Wars: The Force Awakens just hit theaters last week (with a Nigel Godrich cameo to boot), but many fans already have their eyes on the follow-up. Some are even calling for another musician cameo from Laura Jane Grace.

The idea first took shape after the Against Me! frontwoman posted a photo donning a Kylo Ren mask (a character from J. J. Abrams’ new film) to her Instagram, wielding not a lightsaber but rather a guitar.

The official Star Wars Twitter account then issued a pair of excellent responses to the photo: “There has been a rock awakening… #TrueTransForceRebel.” The hashtag is a nod to “True Trans Soul Rebel” from Against Me!’s 2014 album Transgender Dysphoria Blues.

Fans ate up the exchange, launching a petition calling Abrams and company to give Grace a role in Star Wars: Episode VIII. The motion has already garnered nearly 6,000 signatures -- one of which belongs to Grace. You can add your name right here.
