Flaming Lips, Tame Impala, Primal Scream + More to Play Austin Psych Fest 2015
While some festivals have decided to wait till the new year to announce their initial lineups, Austin Psych Fest has dropped a hefty list of artists that include the Flaming Lips, Tame Impala and Primal Scream.
Taking place May 8-10 at the Carson Creek Ranch in Austin, Texas, other acts include A Place to Bury Strangers, White Fence, Spiritualized, The Black Angels, Mac DeMarco, Melody's Echo Chamber, Thee Oh Sees, Lightning Bolt and more. Also noteworth, the Jesus and Mary Chain are among the fest's headliners and are slated to play 'Psychocandy,' which the Scottish alt-rock outfit initially released in 1985 (they'll be celebrating its 30th anniversary).
And if you need a reminder of what that LP sounded like, listen below:
Perhaps the only thing that seems a bit different in 2015 compared to previous years is that the fest is now entitled 'Leviation,' which is the same name as its sister festival in France. The festival's organizers released a statement explaining the moniker change.
"Over the years, countless other "psych fest" events have popped up around the globe - music communities all over the world are gathering together and celebrating music and art together. This is an amazing thing and we are proud to be a part of it.
In 2015 we are redefining what we're doing with a renewed focus on the music we love, and to mark that change the festival is taking on a new name: LEVITATION. The title comes from one of our favorite tracks from Austin legends The 13th Floor Elevators, who have provided us with endless inspiration. Their music and message transcended genre - they were true innovators."
