Ben Gibbard stopped by 'The Colbert Report' last night (Jan. 10) to chat with Stephen Colbert and run through a couple of tunes from his second solo album, 'Former Lives,' which dropped last year. The first performance, of the single 'Bigger Than Love' (watch above), featured an all-star backing band comprising guitarist Ted Leo, Superchunk drummer Jon Wurster, keyboardist Jamie Edwards and bassist-singer Aimee Mann, who sang alongside Gibbard on the album version of the tune as well.

Gibbard later performed a solo version of 'I'm Building a Fire' for Internet-only viewing (watch it below). But before any of the performances, he sat down with Colbert for a rather brief and somewhat awkward discussion about Death Cab for Cutie and more (watch at the bottom). And sorry, no, he didn't get into rumors of a Postal Service reunion at Coachella, so we'll just have to keep waiting on that one.
